In the late 1940s, Denver F. Gray recognized that the offshore oil and gas industry needed an insurance program that could respond to the overlapping combination of state and federal jurisdictions and its complex contractual arrangements. In 1953, he responded to this by developing a casualty package that combined coverage for General Liability, Automobile Liability, and Workers’ Compensation under one program and founded Gray & Company, Inc.
Gray & Company, Inc. operated as the underwriting manager for various unaffiliated insurance companies for many years and from these underwriting activities, The Gray Insurance Company was launched. In 1977, The Gray Insurance Company was incorporated under the laws of Louisiana and received its certificate of authority from the Louisiana State Department of Insurance.
The Gray Insurance Company is admitted in 50 states and the District of Columbia and works with licensed agents to provide specific and aggregate insurance, multi-state coverages, claims management, and loss prevention. Gray has over 60 years of experience insuring the following industries:
- Energy, Oil & Gas
- Land, Maritime, and USL&H
- Heavy Construction
- Medium to Large Casualty Risk

The Gray Insurance Company offers a funded Self Insured Retention (SIR)/Deductible program that has been designed to provide the insured with an opportunity for maximum savings and protection.

Each insured is assigned a senior adjuster who provides a single point of contact. The adjuster handles the claim from beginning to end, coordinating investigations and communications with the insured. They are proficient in litigation cost management and actively involved in maintaining appropriate claims reserves.
